WALTHAM, MA: PerkinElmer, a technology and life sciences company, recently selected Porter Novelli as its AOR in a move to consolidate its PR agencies and expand its global reach. The annual contract, which can be renewed, is worth between $750,000 and $1 million, according to Stephanie Wasco, VP of corporate communications for PerkinElmer.

The Waltham, MA-based company has focused primarily on the US market until now, Wasco explained, and was also seeking a “cohesive PR strategy.”

The agency, which was officially hired September 15, began providing corporate communications, media relations, and strategic support for the company's five business units earlier this month, said Lynne Brum, EVP for PN Life Sciences and the account leader. The work will also utilize the PN network in Europe, China, and India.

PerkinElmer previously worked with three other PR firms, all of which were invited to pitch for the account when the RFP was distributed on August 6, Wasco noted. She declined to name the other agencies.

PerkinElmer operates in 150 countries and has more than 9,000 employees globally. The publicly traded company reported a 2007 revenue of $1.8 billion.

The staff from PN's New York-based corporate and healthcare practices and PN Life Sciences will contribute to the account, Brum said.
