NEW YORK: Lou Capozzi has stepped down from his role as chairman emeritus at Publicis Groupe's Public Relations and Corporate Communications (PRCC). He will maintain his role as an honorary senior counsel with MS&L, a Publicis agency.

Capozzi joined MS&L in 1990 as a creative director and became CEO in 1997. He led the firm for seven years, leaving in 2005 to chair PRCC. He has served as chairman emeritus since 2007.

"This has been a step-by-step thing for me,” he told PRWeek. “It just seems like the right time to take the next step and retire from the PRCC assignment and return back to MS&L as a senior consultant. Most of my activities now are in the industry rather than in the firm, and it just seemed best to do that on behalf of MS&L, who can really get the most out of it... My principle responsibility will be representing them in the industry."

He will continue to take take part in industry speaking and education opportunities serving MS&L's business objectives. Capozzi will also remain president of the International Communications Consultants Organisation (ICCO) and adjunct professor in New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies Masters Degree program in PR.
