NEW YORK: Makovsky & Company has named Gil Bashe head of its eight-member health practice. He replaces Jack Domeischel, who left the firm at the end of last year to move to the corporate pharmaceutical side.
The group, which accounts for 25% to 30% of business, has also changed its name from "health sciences" to "health," to reflect a broader focus to include the pharma, biotech and medical device and diagnostic sectors.
Bashe comes from medical education firm Catalyst Communications. "Medical education is so connected to healthcare PR," said Bashe. "In both, you constantly work to manage thought leader relationships."
In 1999, he launched Health!Quest Global Communication Partners, which merged into an equity-sponsored enterprise in November 2002. Bashe has also been CEO of WPP's health marketing consortium, CommonHealth, and EVP and global director of Hill & Knowlton's health and pharma practice.
