Sony Pictures TV wraps up revamp of PR department

LOS ANGELES: Sony Pictures Television, a division of Sony Corporation of America, has finished restructuring its publicity department by naming a new head of communications and media relations.

LOS ANGELES: Sony Pictures Television, a division of Sony Corporation of America, has finished restructuring its publicity department by naming a new head of communications and media relations.

SVP Paula Askanas will be in charge of corporate communications for domestic operations, including advertising, as well as overseeing publicity efforts for Sony shows on network, cable, and in syndication. Askanas, who has been with Sony for eight years, previously headed publicity efforts for the network television division.

Sony's TV group currently produces or distributes about 60 programs internationally, including primetime series such as Dawson's Creek and The King of Queens, daytime shows such as The Young and The Restless, and game shows like Wheel of Fortune.

In 2001, Sony announced it would consolidate its network and syndication TV arms into one unit, phasing out the Columbia TriStar Television division and laying off staff. That change led to a restructuring of the communications department.

Other appointments include the hiring of Robert Pietranton as VP of media relations, and Tamara Golihew as director of media relations.
