MGM makes new hires in publicity group

LOS ANGELES: MGM Distribution, the division of Metro Goldwyn Mayer that markets and distributes theatrical releases, has brought on board two new vice presidents in its publicity department.

Kristin Borella will oversee publicity campaigns for the studio's films from production to release as VP of national publicity. Borella was formerly with Bumble Ward & Associates, a boutique agency based in Los Angeles that specializes in film promotion and personal representation for filmmakers.

Borella will begin her tenure managing publicity for the forthcoming Chow Yun-Fat action movie Bulletproof Monk. She will also handle Jeepers Creepers 2 and comedy Molly Gunn, among others.

MGM also hired Wendy Kupsis as VP of field publicity and promotions.

Kupsis was formerly director of field operations for Universal Pictures.

Kupsis will manage all field campaigns for MGM and United Artist releases, including the upcoming Nicholas Nickleby.

MGM also hired former Baker Winokur Ryder staffer Erica Cohen as a new senior publicist, and promoted Seanna Hore from publicist to senior publicist.

The hires mark the end of a year of restructuring at MGM, begun when Peter Adee took over as head of marketing in July after the studio suffered from a string of box-office flops, including Hart's War and Windtalkers.

"The past year has brought a great deal of change for us, but it's been incredibly exciting to see a new department take shape and come together so wonderfully," said Eric Kops, SVP of publicity.
