NEW YORK: Cathy Baron Tamraz, COO of Business Wire, has been named president.

NEW YORK: Cathy Baron Tamraz, COO of Business Wire, has been named president.

She takes over for founder Lorry Lokey, who will remain chairman and CEO, but plans to cut back on his day-to-day duties.

Tamraz cited international expansion, global branding, and enhanced multimedia capabilities as her three areas of primary concern as she transitions into the new post. She said she plans to make an active push for opening new offices in international locations.

"Our philosophy has always been to listen more than we speak," explained Tamraz. "Clients and the current climate are calling for increased international presence and technological advances."

Tamraz has been with the company since 1979, when she joined as news editor in San Francisco. The following year, she opened the organization's New York office. Working her way through the ranks over the past two decades, Tamraz was named COO in 2000.

As president, she will be based in New York, but will spend considerable time at headquarters in San Francisco.
