SACRAMENTO, CA: High-level Democratic communicators have shuffled into key positions in the state capital.
Gov. Gray Davis has hired Peter Ragone as director of communications.
Ragone most recently served as the communications director for Andrew Cuomo's campaign for governor of New York.
Ragone also served as Al Gore's California press secretary during his run for President, and headed the press office for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Clinton administration.
Ragone began his tenure by helping craft a strategy to announce Davis' controversial budget plans. California is facing a budget gap of almost $35 billion over 18 months, and severe cuts are expected.
Additionally, Roger Salazar, Davis' press secretary during his successful reelection campaign, has joined Porter Novelli's Sacramento office as a senior counselor. Salazar also served as former Vice President Al Gore's deputy press secretary during his bid for the White House.
