Aventis promotes from within to fill top global PR post

BRIDGEWATER, NJ: Aventis has gone inside to fill its head of global product communications post. David Owens, former VP of global marketing for cardiovascular products, was picked by Gilles Brisson, corporate EVP of communications and public affairs, to hold the most senior communications job in the US for Aventis' global operations.

David Owens, former VP of global marketing for cardiovascular products, was picked by Gilles Brisson, corporate EVP of communications and public affairs, to hold the most senior communications job in the US for Aventis' global operations.

The position was formerly held by Doug Stokke, who left the company last December to head MS&L's healthcare group.

Citing a reshaping of Aventis' entire global communications and public affairs groups, Owens said there will be an expanded focus on disease awareness, as well as more collaboration with other business units.

He explained, "We are working toward a single-story strategy to avoid communicating conflicting messages from different departments and offices."

Owens' tenure at Aventis began six years ago when he was hired as VP in the cardiovascular division of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (RPR). Aventis formed in December of 1999 when RPR merged with Hoechst AG.
