Delphi updates its image to highlight hi-tech approach

TROY, MI: Delphi has shuffled its corporate communications staff to better align its brand with the hi-tech industry.

TROY, MI: Delphi has shuffled its corporate communications staff to better align its brand with the hi-tech industry.

Spun out of General Motors five years ago, the company develops mobile electronics and transportation components and systems technology.

Karen Healy, VP of corporate affairs and facilities, said, "We're often seen as an auto parts supplier, even though we provide electronics to other sectors. We're perceived as being from the rust belt, and we want to move that perception to hi-tech."

To do that, Delphi realigned its communications team to integrate its public affairs and brand development efforts. William Lafontaine, formerly director of marketing and customer development, is now corporate director of media communication and brand development. Lafontaine will report to Healy, and will have various communications functions, including media relations, advertising, and brand development reporting to him.

Steven Gaut has moved from corporate director of media relations to director of communications/EMEA. David Bodkin, director of communications in Mexico, will fill Gaut's old role.
