Beverly Hills hires Weber Shandwick for tourism boost

LOS ANGELES: The Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau has selected Weber Shandwick as its agency of record, filling a year-long PR gap.

LOS ANGELES: The Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau has selected Weber Shandwick as its agency of record, filling a year-long PR gap.

In addition to promoting the town as an upscale tourist spot, WS will handle media relations and special events for the bureau, which is a division of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association.

WS will have a team of three on the account, including travel practice head Renee Mack, who is based in New York.

Joe Kessler, president of WS California, declined to comment on immediate plans, but said early projects could include celebrity-hosted walking tours of the city for morning television shows, for example.

WS beat out two other agencies to win the account: Crier Communications and The Pollack PR Marketing Group.

Kathryn Smits, head of the bureau since last October, said that WS' size and reach were key factors in the decision. "So much of our market is coming from New York and the East Coast, and (WS) has a strong presence there," she explained.
