Beer wholesalers tap Hill veteran Semones to head public affairs

ALEXANDRA, VA: The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) has named Michelle Semones its new director of public affairs. She will report to David Rehr, president of the organization.

ALEXANDRA, VA: The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) has named Michelle Semones its new director of public affairs. She will report to David Rehr, president of the organization.

The NBWA is a trade association for beer wholesalers, and lobbies on their behalf.

Previously, Semones served as press secretary for the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee under the leadership of former Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN).

Semones said the recent studies that have concluded that moderate beer consumption is healthy would be used to launch other NBWA initiatives.

For example, at this month's Menus Conference for chain restaurants, the NBWA will promote the uses of beer in recipes.

Because a large number of NBWA members are small-business owners, Semones said much of her initial focus will be on a legislative conference scheduled for this spring.

"The NBWA is a big player on the Hill," explained Semones, "so I think my experience there will prove useful."
