TOY BOX: Samsung reloads with its Matrix phone

Will Samsung's Matrix phone be promoting a movie, or will a movie be promoting the phone? It's hard to say.

Will Samsung's Matrix phone be promoting a movie, or will a movie be promoting the phone? It's hard to say.

Warner Bros. claims The Matrix Reloaded will be, as its predecessor, all about Keanu Reeves' phone. And chatrooms are burning up, but opinion is divided. "This phone looks like my electric razor;" "If you peel off the Matrix sticker, you reveal it's actually a Spy Kids 2 phone;" "It's something my six-year-old would totally want;" "I've sketched fresher designs on the back of a napkin while drunk." But this is cool hardware, and Keanu will look cool pointing it at folks. Industry wags say Samsung would not be the first maker to benefit from The Matrix. Nokia's phone was a must-have after being featured in the last film. It even sparked a small business in Matrix-style phone covers. But although The Matrix Reloaded will no doubt be exciting, Toybox's vote for favorite new phone goes not to the Samsung, but rather the new Nokia 6590. Any questions? toybox@rlmPR.com

Keanu is green (read: environmentally friendly) like the phone. You can be the millionth on your block to have one. The analog version is from another world (i.e., does not exist). This column is a teaser campaign on its own.
