WASHINGTON: In the face of war in Iraq and financial ruin for the airline sector, the Air Transport Association (ATA) has been working with Xenophon Strategies in an ongoing campaign to communicate the desperate situation faced by the industry.

Xenophon helped coordinate a March 11 press conference during which the issues threatening the airline industry's viability were outlined. At the conference, several scenarios were presented for the industry's near term. Most of these highlighted the fact that a war in Iraq could devastate the already hobbled sector.

The presentation lead to substantial press coverage, claimed Xenophon president David Fuscus. "The numbers are very compelling. What has happened since September 11 and what is happening is because of the war, and we're trying to convey the connectivity of the airline industry to the overall economy."

This week, airline-industry representatives are expected to take to Capitol Hill, and Xenophon will help with the launch of a supporting website, www.saveusaviation.org.
