WASHINGTON: Steve Lombardo left his post as president and CEO of Edelman's Strategy One unit last week to start his own agency, Lombardo Consulting Group.
A former partner at BSMG, Lombardo joined Edelman in 1999 to launch the research and strategy group. He has since served simultaneously as vice chairman of the independent agency's new in-house advertising unit, Blue Worldwide.
Lombardo's new firm will focus on public-opinion research, advertising development, and communications strategy, as well as some political consulting, he said. The agency opens with seven employees and two offices, in Washington, DC and New York.
Both Edelman and Lombardo described the split as amicable. "It was a chance to go out and do something on my own," said Lombardo.
Replacing Lombardo as president at Strategy One is Jennifer Scott, who was recently brought in as an EVP.
Lombardo Consulting Group is already doing brand-identity work for Altria, corporate social responsibility work for Philip Morris USA, and public-opinion research for the National Governors Association.
