Food PR veteran opens Chicago agency

CHICAGO: Food PR veteran Lisa Doherty has launched her own agency, Lisa Doherty Marketing Communications.

The agency will specialize in food and beverage PR, handling media relations, influencer outreach, and crisis- and issues-management projects.

Doherty said she already has some client assignments, but would not specify with whom.

She's put together what she calls a "virtual team" of six associates, and has also taken on two interns.

Doherty had been SVP and leader of the food, beverage, and nutrition practice in Porter Novelli's Chicago office from 1996 to 2002. That shop was hit hard by the tech wreck, with 22 employees - over half of its staff - being laid off last year.

While at PN, Doherty oversaw work on such Procter & Gamble brands as Folgers coffee and Pringles potato chips.

She's also worked with Ruder Finn and Golin/Harris International in Chicago. She handled clients such as Nestle USA, Ralston Purina, and McDonald's while at those firms.

Prior to her agency stints, Doherty was communications manager for Campbell Soup in Camden, NJ, where she oversaw communications for soups and for the Campbell's Center for Nutrition & Wellness.
