H&K selects local comms vet as new Chicago office GM

CHICAGO: Hill & Knowlton has hired Chicago PR veteran Steve Singerman from rival Edelman to become the new GM of its Chicago office, and also head of its US marketing practice.

"He fills two needs for us," said Harlan Teller, chief client officer with H&K in Chicago.

Singerman, who had been MD of consumer brands at Edelman, starts at H&K November 1. He joined Edelman in 1997, after running his own PR shop for two years.

Prior to that, Singerman had been an SVP and deputy GM with Ruder Finn's Chicago operations, and spent the 1980s with Ketchum.

Singerman replaces Gene Reineke as Chicago GM. In April, Reineke moved from Chicago to become GM of H&K's Washington, DC office.

Edelman is eliminating Singerman's former position, leaving its consumer practice in the hands of three GMs already in place in that area.
