SEATTLE: Kathy Savitt is leaving her position as president of MWW/Savitt to join with Amazon.com as VP of strategic communications, the highest-ranking PR position at the online retailer.

The MWW Group has promoted Rosanne Marks to GM of MWW/Savitt, its Seattle office, and Craig Berman to deputy GM.

Savitt will join Amazon by the end of the year, overseeing worldwide communications, including PR, brand marketing, special events, employee communications, and industry-analyst relations.

Savitt is not new to Amazon, however. Late last year, Savitt began providing communications counsel to the online retailer, and she has spent

much of the past year restructuring the company's in-house PR team, as well as its external PR agency relationships.

Amazon selected Burson-Marsteller as it lead agency in late summer 2002, before Savitt began working with the company. Nevertheless, she said that Amazon decided to part ways with Burson earlier this year.
