VAIL, CO: The Taste of Vail, an annual food festival that draws 5,000 visitors from 40 states and 10 foreign countries, has hired CTA Public Relations to handle marketing and PR for the 2004 event, to be held next April 7-10.

The agency will handle media relations with regional and national press in the travel, food, and general news sectors, said Carl Thompson, a principal at the Louisville, CO firm. Media outreach has already begun.

"The principal message is that Vail is a great place to come and visit any time of the year. Vail has a great lifestyle," Thompson says.

The agency will prepare a media kit for the festival and run an on-site pressroom. All 10 CTA staffers are working on the assignment, added Thompson.

The agency has also been working with Vail on a campaign to sell its sewer covers. Last year, visitors started stealing covers that commemorated the town's 40th anniversary, so Vail decided to sell them. Thus far, $60,000 has been raised through such sales, Thompson said.
