PN gets top role as DAS claims Aventis oncology account

STRASBOURG, FRANCE: Aventis has handed all marketing responsibilities for its global oncology franchise to Team Aventis Oncology, a network created by Omnicom's Diversified Agency Services (DAS) division, on which the holding company will rely on Porter Novelli (PN) to provide full PR support.

STRASBOURG, FRANCE: Aventis has handed all marketing responsibilities for its global oncology franchise to Team Aventis Oncology, a network created by Omnicom's Diversified Agency Services (DAS) division, on which the holding company will rely on Porter Novelli (PN) to provide full PR support.

The new unit - which is somewhat similar to OneBlue, a PR team led by Ketchum, but made up of pros from other Omnicom firms that was created in 2001 for the sole purpose of servicing IBM - will be run by PN and DDB Health, a consumer healthcare advertising agency.

Tom Harrison, CEO of DAS, said the reason for choosing PN over other Omnicom PR agencies was "cultural and therapeutic," and not because other firms had conflicts of interest. "Experience in the oncology therapeutic area already existed [at Porter Novelli]," he noted.

PN works on Taxol, Bristol-Myers Squibb's breast-cancer treatment, and CamPath, a leukemia drug made by Berlex. The agency also represents the National Cancer Institute.
