PALO ALTO, CA: Suzette Stephens has quit Hewlett-Packard, just four months after being named VP of global communications.
HP declined to comment on Stephens' departure, only to say in a statement that Stephens' "resignation was mutually agreed to and was appropriate."
However, media reports, including those in The New York Times and San Jose Mercury News made a point to note that Stephens quit November 25, the same day as Jeff Clarke, HP's EVP of global operations, and former Compaq CFO. Clarke said he wanted to be the CFO of a Fortune 50 company, or a CEO.
At least one report said Stephens resigned for personal reasons and acknowledged that she and Clarke were dating.
"I will assume [Stephens'] responsibilities on an interim basis," said Allison Johnson, SVP, global brand and communications, to whom Stephens had reported. "No decisions have yet been made related to a formal search or replacement."
Stephens is HP's second high-level communications departure this year. Kay Hart, VP of corporate communications and media relations, left in May.
