MONTVALE, NJ: Scott Keogh, former GM of corporate communications for Mercedes-Benz North America, has been promoted to a new position, general manager of Smart USA.
Mercedes created Smart in 1994 with SMH, the maker of Swatch watches. Keogh joined Mercedes North America in 1994, and has also worked on marketing assignments for the company in Germany. He'll be responsible for sales, marketing, product planning, and retail development of Mercedes' Smart brand in the US. Mercedes is planning to bring its first Smart-branded SUV to this country in 2006.
Replacing Keogh as GM of corporate communications at Mercedes is Geoff Day, who had been communications director for DaimlerChrysler UK. The changes are effective January 1.
