Showtime turns to Licata to help push its programming

LOS ANGELES: Showtime Networks has hired a high-profile Rogers & Cowan executive to fill the newly created role of EVP of programming publicity.

Richard Licata, who was most recently EVP of television and digital entertainment for Rogers & Cowan (R&C), a Weber Shandwick subsidiary, is a well-known industry figure credited with helping HBO create its brand identity when he was head of media relations for the fledgling channel in the mid-'80s and early '90s. At R&C he handled television-show clients, including Will & Grace and Monk, and helped FX Network in a successful campaign to promote The Shield for Emmy consideration.

R&C has not yet filled Licata's position, but is looking to hire soon.

Licata will be responsible for handling publicity for Showtime offerings such as Queer as Folk, and he will be based out of the LA office. Showtime's corporate communications head Nancy Glauberman will remain in New York, where the Viacom-owned company is headquartered.

Before joining R&C, Licata was SVP of publicity and corporate communications for Fox Broadcasting.
