WASHINGTON: Ketchum's year-long hunt for someone to lead its public affairs practice came to an end last week with the hiring of former Congresswoman Susan Molinari (R-NY).

Once the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress, Molinari has spent the past two years as chairman and CEO of Ketchum's lobbying arm, The Washington Group. She will retain that role along with her new responsibilities.

"Our initial work is to look at our clients here at The Washington Group and our base of clients at Ketchum public affairs, and see how we can service them better by the resources we bring to bear," said Molinari. "What we are looking to do is ramp it up as we look at the issues that are evolving, such as transportation, education, and healthcare."

The last person to head Ketchum's public affairs practice was Anne Forristall, who left to join government relations shop McClure, Gerard & Neuenschwander in October 2002. Mike McCurry, a former-press secretary to Bill Clinton, was in talks to take over the position last year, but an agreement could not be reached.
