NEW YORK: Effective immediately, Andrew Laurence has been named chairman and CEO of Hill & Knowlton Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). He takes over for Paul Taaffe, chairman and CEO of H&K global, who had been handling the job since 1994.

Laurence joined H&K in 1989. Among other senior roles, he has served as CEO of the UK operation. Before taking on this new position, he was chairman of practices for the EMEA region, as well as deputy chair of Hill & Knowlton UK. He headed the UK corporate practice for five years, and has extensive international experience.

"I expect us to continue to raise our game and, central to this, will be a total focus on helping our clients succeed in a fast-changing business climate," Laurence said in a release.

Taaffe added in the release that the firm did well in the EMEA region last year "in spite of tough trading conditions," crediting the management team of which Laurence is a part for the success.
