Communications SVP quits Novartis Pharmaceuticals

EAST HANOVER, NJ: Greg Baird, SVP of communications for Novartis Pharmaceuticals, has resigned from the Swiss drug company to pursue other opportunities.

EAST HANOVER, NJ: Greg Baird, SVP of communications for Novartis Pharmaceuticals, has resigned from the Swiss drug company to pursue other opportunities.

According to Bob Laverty, VP of global media relations, Baird, who officially left on February 16, has yet to accept a new permanent position.

Laverty has stepped into Baird?s job on an interim basis, while Novartis searches for a permanent replacement.

Baird was responsible for overseeing all communications efforts for Novartis? pharmaceutical division, globally and in the US. As the most senior communications person based at the company?s East Rutherford, NJ campus, he reported directly to Novartis? corporate communications heads, Steve Kelmar and Bob Pearson, who are based in Basel, Switzerland, where Novartis is headquartered.

Baird?s departure comes as Novartis has emerged as a potential so-called ?white knight? for Aventis, which is battling against Sanofi-Synthalabo?s hostile takeover bid.

Sanofi launched its hostile bid earlier this year. The move has forced Aventis to look for other possible merger partners, such as Novartis, that might be willing to execute an amicable transaction.
