LOS ANGELES: When LPGA golfer Rosie Jones announced last week that she was a lesbian and had signed a sponsorship deal with gay/lesbian-targeted travel company Olivia, it marked the first step in a PR plan crafted by veteran entertainment specialist Howard Bragman.

Bragman, who left his namesake LA-based Bragman Nyman Cafarelli at the start of the year, helped Jones announce the sponsorship - the first such deal for an openly gay pro-athlete - and her sexual orientation by aiding in the placement of an op-ed in last Sunday's New York Times. He also pitched the story as a news item to the AP. Outlets across the country have since picked up the item, creating numerous press mentions for his travel-company client. Bragman is now working as a solo practitioner, specializing in gay/lesbian and Jewish issues.
