WASHINGTON: Porter Novelli has hired Jerry Franz from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to be EVP and director of strategic health alliances for its health and social marketing practice. Franz had been an SVP with PN when he left a decade ago to join the ADA, where he was most recently national VP of communications.

PN said Franz's expertise, especially in diabetes and obesity, would be of huge value to clients.

Franz said that although he loves the nonprofit side and the ADA's mission, he was coaxed over to PN by being challenged by Rob Gould, GM of the DC office, to increase business in the association and voluntary world. Gould also challenged him to help train staff and foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the office.

At the ADA, Franz directed scientific and medical communications and media outreach.
