WASHINGTON: Chuck Alston, former executive director of the Democratic Leadership Committee (DLC), is joining MS&L as SVP for creative and strategic development. MD Joe Gleason described Alston's role as something of an internal political consultant.

"He's a tremendous resource from a public affairs and counseling point of view for our clients," said Gleason of Alston. "He'll certainly act in those roles, but he will also be a strategic resource for everybody else here to tap into."

The position was formerly held by Brian Gaudet, who left MS&L last week to form his own agency, Brian Gaudet & Associates.

Gaudet said he already has two clients he can disclose - the Independent Pilots Association and the UPS pilots union - as well as a confidential litigation- support account.

Brian Gaudet & Associates will focus on crisis and labor communications and litigation support, Gaudet explained. Currently the staff consists of Gaudet and his wife, Martha, who was director of communications services at the Department of Health and Human Services during the first Bush administration and who has done freelance work for Stratacomm. However, Gaudet said that he would probably be looking to hire in the fall.

He added that he had been thinking about pursuing his own agency for some time, but held back given the down economy.
