TOY BOX: Convoq meets web-conference needs

The internet allows you to be anywhere with anyone - in theory. In practice, the idea of web-based business meetings has been slowed by slow transmission lines, complex conference set-ups, and the cost.

The internet allows you to be anywhere with anyone - in theory. In practice, the idea of web-based business meetings has been slowed by slow transmission lines, complex conference set-ups, and the cost.

Now Lexington, MA-based Convoq is offering an easy-to-use and low-cost web-meeting product, Convoq ASAP, which I found quite impressive.

Buy a license for ASAP (you must buy a minimum of four at $149.95 a year each) and you can create meetings for up to 10 people. Everyone needs a web cam and you need to create a list with everyone's IM name. The people you invite needn't have ASAP, however - you set up the meeting through Convoq's website.

You can hold an unlimited number of meetings for the annual license fee. Meetings can be scheduled in advance or you can send people messages to see if they can chat. Presentations can also be shown and documents can be edited together on-screen during a conference.

The demo I was given worked flawlessly. I could see using this to meet with distant clients and, in turn, save on travel costs.
