Havas talks to Grey as Omnicom posts its results from Q2

NEW YORK: On the holding company front, talks are under way between Havas and Grey Global about a possible purchase of Grey, and Omnicom has released its second-quarter results.

Peggy Nahmany, director of external relations at Paris-based Havas, told PRWeek that "top management" at Havas was "obviously" talking to New York-based Grey about buying the world's seventh-largest agency holding company.

Havas chairman Alain de Pouzilhac said in the July 26 issue of Le Figaro that Havas was interested in buying Grey.

Meanwhile, Omnicom, the world's largest agency holding company, said its PR revenue for this year's second quarter rose 11.8% over last year's.

PR revenue increased from $235.4 million in the second quarter last year to $263.1 million for the same period this year. Omnicom's PR agencies accounted for 10.9% of the company's revenue in the three months ending June 30, compared with 11.6% in the same period last year.

New York-based Omnicom's PR firms include Ketchum, Fleishman-Hillard, Brodeur Worldwide, Gavin Anderson, and Porter Novelli.

Overall, Omnicom's revenue from US operations edged up from nearly $1.2 billion in last year's second quarter to $1.3 billion in this year's.
