DETROIT - PRstore, a franchise PR operation started two years ago, has signed a new franchisee, Appleseed Group, which plans to open nine PRstores in the Detroit and Toledo areas.

The first Appleseed-run PRstore will open this year in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, said James Moore, president of Appleseed.

PRStore is aimed at small-business clients, noted Kathy Butler, a founder and partner. The initial investment for a store can range from $100,000 to $180,000, she said.

The first PRstore opened in Charlotte, NC, two years ago. The company also has a franchisee with a store in Grand Rapids, MI.

When the first store opened, PRstore predicted it would sell nine franchises over its first year. The goal wasn't hit, but the company is doing well, said Butler.

The Charlotte store is doing better than its business plan projected. Two new Charlotte locations are planned for early next year. The Grand Rapids store is meeting objectives, Butler said.

Negotiations are under way with other potential franchisees in Chicago and Georgia.
