US Newswire inks deal to issue Bush camp's releases

WASHINGTON: US Newswire has signed a contract to distribute press releases and related materials for the Bush/Cheney campaign.

WASHINGTON: US Newswire has signed a contract to distribute press releases and related materials for the Bush/Cheney campaign.

The company said it is the only wire service to distribute for both presidential campaigns. John Kerry has been using US Newswire since last April.

Brian Taylor, US Newswire's VP for marketing communications, wouldn't discuss terms of the contract.

PR Newswire also distributed press releases and information for the Bush/Cheney campaign, which it has worked with since last year.

Taylor said he expects the Bush campaign to match Kerry's clip of 10 to 12 documents sent out per day.

He said Bush/Cheney '04 may have been influenced to sign with US Newswire by Kerry's decision to do so months ago.

With both candidates using the same service, journalists can pull up political accusations, denials, and rebuttals without changing screens, Taylor added.

Founded in 1986, US Newswire has worked for both candidates in every presidential election since 1988, except for 1992, when it was hired only by eventual winners Clinton and Gore.

The Bush campaign did not return calls seeking comment.
