TOY BOX: Latest Jenny Craig items measure up

With the summer barbeque season over, it's time to think about working off some calories before the year-end party scene kicks in.

With the summer barbeque season over, it's time to think about working off some calories before the year-end party scene kicks in.

Jenny Craig wants to help. The weight-loss wonder is offering two products designed to help in the endless battle of the bulge. One is a digital scale from Tanita that tells you your weight and the percentage of body fat you have using a technique called bioelectrical impedance analysis. It doesn't hurt a bit - until you look at the body fat number and realize you need to exercise more. That's where the second device helps, it's a pedometer that tells you not only how many steps you've walked, but how many calories you've burned doing it. The calorie-counting feature puts this a step above the pedometers McDonald's gives away. It amazed me how few calories walking actually burns. No wonder I can't lose weight! The scale is simple to program and use. It also tended to weigh me about a pound and a half (it shows tenths of a pound) less than my scale. That alone should make it worth considering.
