CHICAGO: The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has picked E. Morris Communications, a Chicago multicultural marketing communications firm, as lead agency in a PR team working on two major Chicago area highway reconstruction projects.

In addition to Morris, Danielle Ashley Advertising and Universal Mazjac Enterprises will handle grassroots community out- reach efforts for reconstruction of the Dan Ryan Expressway and the Kingery Expressway, both on Chicago's South Side. Morris will also reach out to minority-owned businesses to inform them about opportunities with the project, said Barnaby Dinges, communications manager for the Chicago metropolitan area with IDOT. PR spending with the three firms will be $5 million over two years, including out-of-pocket expenses, such as printing educational brochures, said Dinges. Reconstruction work on the two highways will last until 2007 and cost the state $700 million.
