NEW YORK: The Interpublic Group said Wednesday it has appointed PR agency veteran Ed Powers as COO of ad agency Lowe Worldwide.
Powers' last post was as COO of Interpublic's Constituency Management Group, which includes all of its PR firms. Before his stint at CMG, Powers worked as COO of Weber Shandwick, the world's largest PR agency.
He was responsible for handling Weber Shandwick's merger with BSMG Worldwide and formerly worked at BSMG managing business affairs.
Powers will begin his new job November 1, the same day that Lowe's new president and CEO, Tony Wright, steps in to replace the outgoing Jerry Judge.
Lowe is widely perceived to be shaking up its upper management in response to its declining fortunes in recent years.
Interpublic president and CEO David Bell praised, in separate statements, Wright's "exceptional talent" and Powers' "exceptional operating skills and financial expertise."
Bell further asserted that "Tony and Ed have what it takes to restore Lowe to its rightful place in the top echelon of global creative agencies."
