Whirlpool hires new VP of corporate comms

BENTON HARBOR, MI: Whirlpool said today that 46-year-old Jeff Noel will take over as its VP of corporate communications and public affairs on November 1.

BENTON HARBOR, MI: Whirlpool said today that 46-year-old Jeff Noel will take over as its VP of corporate communications and public affairs on November 1.

Noel will replace the former VP of global communications, Barry Holt, who retired in June.

In his new position, Noel will direct Whirlpool's communications, government relations, and foundation, overseeing a staff of about 30. He will report to Whirlpool chairman, president, and CEO Jeff Fettig.

Noel will leave his current job as president of the Cornerstone Alliance, an economic-development group for Benton Harbor.

Stephen Duthie, Whirlpool's manager of global communications, said the company undertook a search for candidates to fill the position, but did not have to look far because senior executives were familiar with Noel's work for the Cornerstone Alliance.

"Benton Harbor is a struggling city," Duthie said. "Selling that is a difficult task."

Noel has previously worked as director of government affairs for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation and executive assistant to Kentucky senator Wendell Ford (D).
