PALO ALTO, CA: Hewlett-Packard has snatched its new VP of corporate media relations from one of its key rivals.
Bob Sherbin joined HP from Gateway, where he was corporate communications VP since March of this year. At HP, Sherbin will focus on shaping the company's global communications strategy, as well as managing its relationships with media worldwide. He reports to Allison Johnson, SVP of corporate marketing.
Sherbin said that he was attracted to HP on the strength of the company's brand and product portfolio, as well as "the opportunity to work in one of the world's most international companies."
Sherbin will oversee a 15-person team and will also work with media relations staff in the company's various business divisions.
Sherbin joined Gateway in 2001 as VP of corporate communications in Asia-Pacific.
He left to join Merrill Lynch, overseeing marketing and communications in Asia-Pacific.
He rejoined Gateway in the US in March 2003 as corporate communications head. Gateway is looking for Sherbin's replacement.
Sherbin fills the role vacated by Suzette Stephens, HP's former global communications VP. Stephens left abruptly in November 2003, four months after being promoted from director of CEO communications.
