Vivendi scouts NY firm, but budget is less than reported

LOS ANGELES: A spokesman for entertainment and telecom giant Vivendi Universal has confirmed that the French company is looking for a New York-based PR agency, but said that media reports of a budget exceeding $1 million are incorrect.

Last week, Adweek, an advertising trade, reported that the RFP, which is now closed, had been distributed to a number of New York firms. The budget was reported to be between $1 million and $2 million for corporate branding work.

The spokesperson said Vivendi has asked for a correction and that the actual budget number is smaller, though Vivendi declined to be more specific.

A decision on the RFP is expected in the next few weeks.

Vivendi Universal owns numerous entertainment companies, including Universal Music Group and Vivendi Universal Games. The company also owns an 18.5% stake in NBC Universal.

After recent financial woes, Vivendi surprised analysts with two strong quarters of growth, spurred by success at Universal Music, which holds such artists as Nelly and U2.
