BEIJING: Porter Novelli has entered the Chinese market, partnering with the country's largest independent PR firm.

Porter Novelli China will be a standalone entity but will draw resources from local firm BlueFocus, which has specialties in technology and healthcare. The new office already has two clients, Dow Plastics and GlaxoSmithKline, and is currently involved in four pitches, said Steven Chen, MD of PN China.

Chen will work closely with Will Ludlam, who was recently appointed head of PN's Asia-Pacific region. Staff will be drawn from PN's global technology, healthcare, corporate, public affairs, and consumer practices.

PN CEO Helen Ostrowski estimated that the PR industry in China is growing by about 30% annually.
