PALO ALTO, CA: One of Hewlett-Packard's top marketing executives has jumped ship little more than a week after the board ousted CEO Carly Fiorina.

SVP of marketing Allison Johnson has joined Apple Computer as VP of worldwide marketing communications.

At HP, all marketing functions, including PR, will report to CMO Michael Winkler in the interim, said Stacy Katz, director of corporate brand media relations. It is unclear whether HP plans to replace Johnson.

HP publicly asserted that Johnson's resignation was independent of Fiorina's departure, despite media speculation to the contrary.

Johnson will oversee advertising and marketing at Apple, said Steve Dowling, senior manager of corporate media relations. Johnson will not have any impact on PR or corporate communications.

Johnson is no stranger to Apple, where she was a marketing communications contractor from 1988 to 1992. She has also worked for IBM and Netscape.
