Ruder Finn hires Barbara Shipley to lead Washington office

WASHINGTON: Ruder Finn has hired Barbara Shipley, former Fleishman-Hillard deputy GM, to lead its Washington office.

WASHINGTON: Ruder Finn has hired Barbara Shipley, former Fleishman-Hillard deputy GM, to lead its Washington office.

Shipley replaces Craig Martin, who left RF in February to become COO and EVP of Boston-based Feinstein Kean Healthcare.

Martha Boudreau, Washington general manager of Fleishman, said the firm was actively searching for Shipley's replacement.

The hiring was a "major effort on the part of our DC office to enhance our strength in consumer and public affairs," according to Richard Funess, president of Ruder Finn/Americas.

As managing director, Shipley will be in charge of the 17-person office, which serves clients such as Novartis, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, and the National Portrait Gallery.

Funess said Shipley was chosen based upon her reputation for garnering new business activity and management skills. RF used its own in-house recruitment person to hire Shipley, who officially starts on March 28.

Shipley said while it was hard to leave Fleishman after seven years of service, she wanted the opportunity to lead an office.

"I had come up against Ruder Finn [in the past] and knew it to be a strong brand, strong culture, and committed to creativity," Shipley said.

RF has also promoted Nancy Glick, EVP, to the newly created post of practice head for health and nutritional affairs.
