NEW YORK: Gareth Edmondson-Jones is leaving the top PR position as VP of Corporate Communications at JetBlue after six years with the low-fare airline.

Having been with the company since its 1999 debut, Edmondson-Jones is the only person ever to hold the position.

"There are very few opportunities like launching an airline," said Edmondson-Jones, "and it's one that you have to be incredibly grateful for."

Todd Burke, director of corporate communications, will head up the department move up to replace him.

Previously, Edmondson-Jones was the head of PR for Virgin Atlantic in the US.

At JetBlue, Edmondson-Jones headed the four-person PR team, and reported to CEO David Needleman.

"Its not leaving JetBlue to go to another job, its leaving JetBlue to go home," said Edmondson-Jones, who is returning to Australia after 15 years in New York.
