WASHINGTON: Former Attorney General John Ashcroft has opened his own consulting firm, bringing with him two of his top aides.

The Ashcroft Group will concentrate on government relations, business issues, and homeland security, according to Juleanna Glover Weiss, a former Ashcroft senior policy advisor and press secretary for Vice President Dick Cheney who is joining the firm. She is currently a lobbyist with Clark and Weinstock.

David Ayres, Ashcroft's chief of staff at the Department of Justice (DOJ), is also joining the new firm.

Weiss added the firm will likely work with "big companies with big problems, or helping them avert big problems," as well as help companies comply with corporate governance legislation.

In addition, Weiss said the firm will leverage Ashcroft's homeland security expertise for companies concerned about terrorism, as well as help other countries bolster their anti-terror regimes.
