SAN FRANCISCO: Stephen Jones, MD of Ogilvy PR's global technology practice, has left the firm. The agency recently lost its piece of Sun Microsystems' US account.

Jones could not be reach for comment.

Jeffrey Leopold, SVP of strategy and planning, confirmed that Jones had resigned, but said that the Sun loss did not have any bearing on the decision.

Ogilvy is looking for Jones' replacement. Amy Messenger, MD of the Denver office, will serve as the tech practice's main contact until the position is filled.

Jones joined Ogilvy in June 2002, coming from Ketchum, where he served as associate director of the global technology practice.

Jones also worked at Burson-Marsteller, Shandwick/Hi-Tech, Hill & Knowlton, and Wilson McHenry. He also worked as a reporter at BusinessWeek, Computerworld, San Jose Business Journal, and Los Angeles Daily News.

Ogilvy had worked with Sun for four years. Last month, Sun consolidated its US PR account from five agencies, which included Ogilvy, down to Bite Communications and MWW Group. Ogilvy did not make the final round of agencies considered during the review.
