LOS ANGELES: Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products have created a new vice president of communications position and hired an Old Navy veteran to fill it.

Jonathan Finn, most recently senior director of PR for the clothing retailer, is charged with managing and executing publicity initiatives for all of Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products to ensure that there is a consistent brand message across properties and products, which includes toys, apparel, and DVDs.

He will report to Dan Martinsen, EVP of corporate communications for Nickelodeon Networks.

Martinsen explained that the position was created to change the communications structure of the consumer products division, the size and scope of which have increased in recent years.

"Previously, I had it structured that [PR] flowed from the TV press department, but you really need someone who knows the consumer products world," he said.

Martinsen added, "Over the past three-to-five years, the [consumer products business] has grown tremendously."

Finn's former post at Old Navy remains vacant. The company is currently seeking his replacement.
