NEW YORK: Joan Walker, EVP of corporate communications at Qwest, will serve as chairman of the 2006 PRWeek Awards.

In June 2002, Walker joined Qwest, where she runs external and internal PR, as well as all marketing functions, including advertising, brand management, and marketing and sales communications.

Before Qwest, Walker was SVP of global public affairs at Pharmacia. Previous corporate posts include roles at Monsanto and Ameritech. She is also a board member of the Arthur W. Page Society.

"My passion for PR makes this an incredible honor - and an awesome opportunity to help recognize the many creative and strategic individuals who so effectively represent the profession," she said.

Entries for the 2006 PRWeek Awards are now being accepted. The deadline for entries is October 14. Winners will be announced at PRWeek's annual awards dinner, to be held on March 6, 2006, at Tavern on the Green in New York.

The entry kit for this year's awards can be found inserted in this week's issue of PRWeek. For further information, please send an e-mail to Jennifer.burke@prweek.com.
