NEW YORK: Ogilvy has hired former Edelman EVP of consumer brands Therese Caruso as its new EVP of strategy and planning.

Caruso assumed her newly created role earlier this month. She will focus on new business development.

"The strategy and planning group was invented about a year and a half ago," said Kym White, MD of Ogilvy's New York office and Caruso's new boss. "I think of them as our Navy Seals of new business. She joins sort of an elite squad here."

White said that the wooing process for Caruso has been going on for the past 18 months. "Sometimes you have to be patient to really get the people you want the most," she said.

Caruso will be based in New York, but her work will cover other parts of the Ogilvy network.
