BRUSSELS: Burson-Marsteller and Helios Partners have been named the joint PR and marketing team for the Sochi 2014 Olympic winter games bid
The Russian city's bid will stress the fact that, despite Russia's Olympic prowess, the country has never hosted a winter Olympics. It will also highlight the area's resort-like qualities.
The two agencies worked together for Moscow's failed 2012 Summer Olympics bid. The 2014 host city will be chosen in July 2007.
Sochi already faces competition from Almaty, Kazakhstan; Borjomi, Georgia; Jaca, Spain; PyeongChang, South Korea; Salzburg, Austria; and Sofia, Bulgaria.
Jeremy Galbraith, CEO of Burson's Brussels office, noted that strict rules limit a city's self-promotion.
"You are not allowed to go out and promote it internationally until you put in your final bid book in January 2007," Galbraith said.
But Galbraith said that the agency is allowed to respond to media requests, which he expected to begin soon..
