H&K taps Murphy to lead Chicago corporate comms unit

CHICAGO: Hill & Knowlton has appointed Sean Murphy SVP in charge of the agency's Chicago corporate communications practice.

CHICAGO: Hill & Knowlton has appointed Sean Murphy SVP in charge of the agency's Chicago corporate communications practice.

The position had been vacant since March, when Harlan Teller, president of H&K's global corporate practice, and James Sloan, head of its Chicago corporate practice, left the agency to run Financial Dynamics' newly created Chicago office.

Murphy will lead the office's practice group responsible for corporate reputation management and positioning, financial communications, crisis management, litigation support, labor relations, corporate social responsibility, and internal communications.

Gene Reineke, COO and EVP at the agency, said H&K took a cautious approach in hiring a replacement.

Murphy began his career at H&K, ascending to the position of VP and group director. He rejoins the firm from the Global Consulting Group (GCG).

Jennifer Eidson is also rejoining H&K's Chicago corporate practice from the GCG. They will begin working for the agency tomorrow, September 6.
