MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: VeriSign has selected Hill & Knowlton as its new US AOR, with the possibility of the relationship going global next year.

The company selected H&K because of its experience in industries beyond technology, its global footprint, and its strong analyst relations team, said Brian O'Shaughnessy, director of corporate communications.

Expanding the new relationship globally is an option, but by no means a done deal, he added.

The final round of the review also included incumbent Bite Communications and Weber Shandwick. Four years ago, VeriSign selected Applied Communications, which Bite acquired in 2003.

VeriSign is best known for its security technology used in online commerce. But the company is also a major player in telecommunications, which generates 50% of its revenue.

The new agency relationship will be integral to VeriSign clearly telling its increasingly complex story, said O'Shaughnessy.
